Why Do We Need Counselling?

The world is developing and changing at a faster pace and because of this, more pressure and expectations are placed upon us. Life becomes increasingly hectic, feelings of overwhelm affect us, things become insurmountable and we begin to lose our way.

Relationships break down, friends move on, family members or close friends become ill or die, careers either change direction or end, finances take a nosedive, health declines. You may have reached a crossroads in your life, with pathways veering off in multiple directions with no clear sign of which one to walk down. This can lead to feelings of confusion, uncertainty and self-doubt, resulting in the fear of change, errors of judgement, snap decisions and misguided choices. As a result, people tend to lock the door to their inner thoughts, blocking out any ideas of change, trying something new or taking a different path.

The misguided choices we often make in life are based on the emotions we experience at the time of an event such as abuse, bullying, loss or failure. These can leave a lasting negative imprint that influences our perception of ourselves, other people and the world around us.

Once the emotions and feelings become entangled, all clarity and clear thinking goes out the window. This can then initiate a stage I term as ‘tunnel vision’. This is where you become so immersed in the emotion of what you are experiencing, you cannot see a way through it. The more you try to fix it, the worse it gets. This can lead to feelings of fear, inadequacy, anxiety, stress, depression, PTSD and suicide ideation.

How Counselling Can Help You

As a counsellor, I work with you to help you reconnect to your own inner guidance. I can help you to

– Know and understand yourself better and connect to who you really are

– Become more self-aware and understanding of the influences of your past and the way it affects your present behaviour.

– Sort through and make sense of your multitude of entangled thoughts and emotions

– Develop coping strategies to manage the feelings of fear, inadequacy, anxiety, stress, depression and PTSD

– Change your negative self-talk, thought patterns and behaviours into something more positive that will manifest better outcomes

– Become more discerning with decision making and future choices

– Find solutions and set goals

– Work through relationship issues

– To understand the process of grief and help you move through the trauma of the loss

To change and transform old patterns or behaviours takes courage and persistence. I am here to support and guide you through the process of change.

As a counsellor I am genuine, empathetic and understanding of what you are experiencing. My counselling approach is broad and flexible, taking into account each client’s individual needs, the problems they are facing and their desired outcomes. The system I use is integrative, based on different theories that take into account all aspects of a person – mind, body, spirit and soul.

I offer you a safe and non-judgemental environment where you can explore your thoughts and feelings, whether positive or negative, without fear of condemnation or rejection.

If you feel I can help you, please contact me to make a booking.

Stress & Anxiety

Stress caused by the continual demands and expectations placed upon us can bring about anxiety which may leave you feeling disoriented and traumatised, leading to the onset of depression or panic disorder.

When a person experiences depression they often face difficulties coping with everyday life. They may experience many emotions ranging from irritability, anger and fear to shame, withdrawal and loneliness.

Grief is felt by everyone from all walks of life and is usually felt in response to the loss or death of a person or animal that was close to us in life. Grief can also be the result of the loss of a job or unexpected changes in lifestyle.
